St. Aloysius Community College

St Aloysius Community College provides is aware of the acute need for certain sections of the society of education above the secondary level and below the degree level. Such courses must come with appropriate skill training and keeping in view the needs of local industry and community. 

St Aloysius Community College offers courses that are designed to acquire gainful employment while keeping the option for horizontal and vertical mobility open. 

The 12th Five Year Plan Document of the Planning Commission has laid a special emphasis on expansion of skill-based programmes in higher education.

It recommends setting up of Community Colleges (CC) to serve multiple needs, including

(i) career oriented education and skills to students interested in directly entering the workforce

(ii) contracted training and education programmes for local employers;

(iii) high –touch remedial education for secondary school graduates not ready to enroll in traditional colleges, giving them a path to transfer to three of four year institutions; and

(iv) general interest courses to the community for personal development and interest.

The Plan Document also states the Community Colleges will be located to afford easy access to underprivileged students and such colleges could either be established as affiliated colleges of universities or as entirely autonomous institutions.

As per the Communication of UGC New Delhi dated 6 Sep 2013 (No. 1-35/2013(CC) the  college has been granted status of Community College to begin two Certificate Courses in  Computer Animation and Multimedia and Travel and Tourism with an approve intake of 20  each in 2013-14. Accordingly we started the programme in November 2013 and completed it  successfully with active participation of our Industry partners. Some of our Industry partners  are:

Our industry partners helped us in designing the course content, planned the testing and evaluation method and assisted our students in field visit.

As per the Communication of UGC New Delhi dated 4 sep 2014, our Community College Scheme has been extended with introduction of two One -year diploma courses in Computer Animation and Multimedia and Travel and Tourism with an intake of 50 students each. Accordingly we have began these programmes.
