The Department of Commerce, a pioneer in Commerce education in the District. It offers M. Com. a two-year post graduation programme with four semesters designed to provide students with a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the practical issues of accounting, financial instruments and their management. The programme lays strong emphasis on the analytical aspects of finance and accounting. Curriculum is carefully designed to strike a balance between theory and practice. The programme provides both rigor as well as the practical aspects of training in finance to students.
Scope of the Programme
M. Com. is a specialized postgraduate Course in the field of Commerce which is unique and demanding in the present business world.
The Course structure and curriculum is designed in such a way that students of this Course will have analytical and entrepreneurial abilities which is very much in demand in capital market and money market analysis and operations. At present there is no research being conducted in the field of finance due to lack of specialized Masters Degree Courses in Finance and Accounting.
The Course will provide ample opportunity for research and innovation in Accounting and Finance which is really the need of the hour. The Course is definitely on par with MBA, CA, CFA, ACS and other advanced finance courses.
Eligibility
Candidates who have passed the three year B.Com/B.B.M degree examination of Mangalore University or any other University considered as equivalent thereto are eligible for the programme provided they have obtained not less than 45% (40% for SC/ST/Category-I candidates) marks in aggregate in all the subjects Excluding Languages and Group III Subjects.

Credit Based System
The programme follows Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with a total of 100 credits. Each semester will have 25 credits. One choice based course of 4 credits shall be offered in the Third Semester of the programme within the faculty or across the faculty.
Every course comprises of lecture – seminar – assignment – self-study – continuous assessment schedule. The minimum number of credits to be earned for the award of the degree is 100.
